Waste workshops to explain recycling around the country.
Unfortunately 30% of waste collected in recycling bins is residual waste items such as food waste, soiled packaging and nappies, all of which should never go into your recycling bin.
In order to educate households on what should go in each of their bins, autumn will see the setting up of more than 600 local workshops and the deployment of 500 ‘waste ambassadors’ to end confusion for consumers and help them decide what is acceptable to go in each bin. This campaign is
government funded and will be run jointly by the states three regional waste authorities and will include by years end the launch of a new website which
will give households information on what will be accepted in each bin by their local collectors. This campaign is an extension of the recently commenced
initiative to advise people on the proper use of food waste bins through local and national radio advertising. The campaign follows in the wake of mounting
concern by customers over facing financial penalties and non collection of bins as a result of contaminated waste.
If you are a victim of others dumping in your bins you may need to fit a ‘gravity lock’ to avoid contamination fines and paying for other people’s rubbish.
